If you could create a new flavor for a dark chocolate bar, what would it be? This is the question Lindt posed to students at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in the Lindt EXCELLENCE Recipe Challenge.
This past weekend, Lindt brought together the 10 finalists from this student scholarship contest, who created recipes for a new dark chocolate bar inspired by the EXCELLENCE collection. Joined by celebrity chef/restaurateur Michael Symon and representatives from the CIA, Lindt unveiled the winner of the Lindt EXCELLENCE Recipe Challenge – Baking & Pastry Arts student Meredith Walter, whose winning recipe concept inspired the new Lindt Mocha Coconut bar.
Celebrity Chef/restaurateur Michael Symon and Lindt Master Chocolatier Ann Czaja unveil the new limited-edition Lindt Mocha Coconut dark chocolate bar, selected as the winner of the Lindt EXCELLENCE Recipe Challenge.
To celebrate the 10 finalists, Lindt hosted a celebration event at the Jimmy at The James Hotel complete with fondue stations, tea and chocolate pairings and a chocolate fountain with delicious food for dipping. The CIA student finalists were invited to celebrate their accomplishments and meet Michael Symon, a CIA alumnus himself.
Symon, who served on the judging panel for the student scholarship contest, joined Lindt Master Chocolatier, Ann Czaja, in officially unveiling Lindt Mocha Coconut as the winning dark chocolate bar. Like Lindt, Symon is a strong supporter of future culinary professionals and shared some advice with the aspiring chefs in attendance.Lindt Mocha Coconut, which features a unique coffee flavor with toasted coconut pieces, has a suggested retail price of $3.85 and is now available exclusively at Lindt.com and select Lindt Chocolate Shops, while supplies last. In addition, Lindt is furthering its commitment to culinary education by donating $1 to The Culinary Institute of America for every Lindt Mocha Coconut bar purchased.
This summer, students at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) had an opportunity to enter the Lindt EXCELLENCE Recipe Challenge, a scholarship contest hosted by Lindt Chocolate and the CIA. CIA students challenged their culinary creativity and expertise to develop a new chocolate bar, inspired by the Lindt EXCELLENCE collection of dark chocolate bars with innovative flavor combinations. Bar submissions were reviewed and judged by a panel of CIA chef instructors and Lindt representatives.
We are proud to announce Lindt Mocha Coconut, the winning bar recipe by Meredith Walter!
Lindt Mocha Coconut features rich coffee, delicate coconut flakes, and premium bittersweet chocolate in a simply satisfying combination of familiar flavors. The winning bar was produced in limited quantities and is now available exclusively on Lindt.com and in select Lindt Chocolate Shops for a limited time.
The winner of the content, Meredith Walter, a baking and pastry arts student at The Culinary Institute of America, was inspired to develop the Mocha Coconut dark chocolate bar recipe concept after pairing two favorite flavors to create a special coconut birthday cake with mocha frosting for her mother and her uncle.
The recipe received applause from the judging panel:
“A simply satisfying combination of familiar tastes merge to create this limited-edition bar.”
- Ann Czaja, Lindt Master Chocolatier

Thank you for taking the Truffle Trivia! As a true chocolate lover, you must be curious to know the correct answers. Which question did you find the most challenging?
Question #1- Approximately how far would 1 million LINDOR truffles stretch if you placed them end to end?
Answer A – 12 Miles
Answer B – 25 Miles
Answer C – 47 Miles
Answer D – 59 Miles
Answer E – 100 Miles
Answer F – To the moon and back
Correct Answer: 47 Miles. LINDOR truffle is about 3 inches long. Therefore, a million truffles would stretch 3,000,000 inches far. As there are 63,360 inches in a mile, 1 million truffles would stretch approximately 3,000,000/63,360 = 47 miles far.
