If you could create a new flavor for a dark chocolate bar, what would it be? This is the question Lindt posed to students at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in the Lindt EXCELLENCE Recipe Challenge.
This past weekend, Lindt brought together the 10 finalists from this student scholarship contest, who created recipes for a new dark chocolate bar inspired by the EXCELLENCE collection. Joined by celebrity chef/restaurateur Michael Symon and representatives from the CIA, Lindt unveiled the winner of the Lindt EXCELLENCE Recipe Challenge – Baking & Pastry Arts student Meredith Walter, whose winning recipe concept inspired the new Lindt Mocha Coconut bar.
To celebrate the 10 finalists, Lindt hosted a celebration event at the Jimmy at The James Hotel complete with fondue stations, tea and chocolate pairings and a chocolate fountain with delicious food for dipping. The CIA student finalists were invited to celebrate their accomplishments and meet Michael Symon, a CIA alumnus himself.
Symon, who served on the judging panel for the student scholarship contest, joined Lindt Master Chocolatier, Ann Czaja, in officially unveiling Lindt Mocha Coconut as the winning dark chocolate bar. Like Lindt, Symon is a strong supporter of future culinary professionals and shared some advice with the aspiring chefs in attendance.Lindt Mocha Coconut, which features a unique coffee flavor with toasted coconut pieces, has a suggested retail price of $3.85 and is now available exclusively at Lindt.com and select Lindt Chocolate Shops, while supplies last. In addition, Lindt is furthering its commitment to culinary education by donating $1 to The Culinary Institute of America for every Lindt Mocha Coconut bar purchased.
